Probiotic - Is it a Good Thing or a Bad Thing?
Do you need to take a probiotic? Odds are that it wouldn't hurt. Adding this type of supplement into your daily diet just might be the best thing you have done. Keeping your body in balance is important and sometimes due to stress or perhaps a poor diet it may need a little help.Probiotics are basically good bacteria that work in your body and help to keep the digestive system and the immune system functioning and healthy. Probiotics have been used for some time in Europe and Japan and slowly becoming more popular in the United States. Of course, these microscopic organisms have been around for millions of years. Since being rediscovered, there hasn’t been a great deal of research on the pros and cons of probiotics; however, the results that have been seen are overall positive to a certain extent.
Those with digestive issues and somewhat poor immune systems can possibly see good results by ingesting a billion or two good bacteria. This is being recommended by specialists to reduce symptoms of IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome), do prevent vaginal infections, urinary infections and stop (or at least minimize) diarrhea (in children). It seems odd to add bacteria to our systems but bacteria is natural and isn’t a natural product better than chemicals that can cause more harm than good?
Going off-track
When you are feeling well, your body is functioning as is was meant to. There of course will be times in which you won't feel so well; this will be due to any number of things such as not eating healthy foods or not getting enough sleep. We know that there are bad bacteria that can cause us to not feel so well too.
The bad bacteria can cause a number of medical ailments such as a yeast infection, a urinary tract infection or even gas, bloating and other symptoms. We don't feel well, we tend to take medication and depending upon the illness we could even take an antibiotic. This can be good and it can be bad.
A medication(s) or an antibiotic can negatively affect our system as well if the medication is taken over a period of time and based on our body's sensitivity level. Antibiotics will kill any bacteria, good or bad. Although the medication does help us, it unfortunately will kill the good probiotics too. For the body to accept the benefits of the medication, it needs to be able to use the medicine to kill the bad not to use it to support the good.
Getting back on track
To make a point before going any further, medication is prescribed for a reason and taking probiotics is not always a solution to a medical ailment. This article is to be informative about good and bad bacteria and that probiotics can help most people in getting their body's back on track and staying healthy for as long as possible.
Most adults know the signs when their body is slowing down and they take action to prevent any further opportunity to feel worse. Vitamins and other supplements are taken as preventative measures. Many people do feel better when taking supplements and it could very well be that this action is beneficial.
We are all so unique and different from each other that sometimes is it difficult to determine why something works great for one but maybe not so great for another. Listening to your body, taking preventative measures and talking to your doctor is a great start to a healthy life. Probiotic supplements have helped thousands of people to feel better; they could help you too.
