Probiotics for Dogs

One of the latest crazes going around the pet community is probiotics for dogs. This is actually not a crazy thing to do, but a healthy thing. Yes, probiotics are healthy and they are completely natural.
Probiotics exist to keep life moving in a positive direction. They are tiny microorganisms that are found in the millions and most of them are found in the digestive tract. They destroy the bad bacteria that can have a negative impact on the digestive system and also the dogs immune system.
A digestive system needs to be kept in balance, if not, well we know what happens there. In regards to an immune system it also requires balance. If not, the body can have a variety of allergies or other issues with the body such as rashes or hair loss.
Probiotics for dogs keeps their digestive tract and tummies working properly and keeps their immune system in check. What can probiotics help our furry K9 friends with?
Reduction in:
- Allergies
- Bad toxins
- Cholesterol levels
- Chemicals/carcinogens
- Food/lactose intolerance levels
- Inflammation
- Yeast infections
Increase/regulation in:
- Absorption of nutrients
- Antibiotics (natural)
- Antioxidant activity
- Digestion (proper)
- Energy levels
- Hormone levels
As you can see by the lists noted above, probiotics for dogs is a must. We want our dogs to be healthy and we know that there is a connection between an unhealthy digestive system and various medical conditions such as arthritis, asthma, food allergies, IBS (irritable bowel syndrome), constipation and other ailments. Ensuring that your beloved pooch has sufficient bacteria to battle and keep these conditions from occurring is important.
Things in their environment can also have an impact on their health. Various chemicals and soil fertilizers, pesticides and antibiotics can have an adverse effect on a dogs health. Yes, antibiotics can create negative reactions in the body. What happens is that the antibiotics can't recognize the difference between good and bad so all bacteria is killed.
There is no age limit to which dogs should or shouldn't receive a daily dose of probiotics. Puppies to elderly dogs all should receive a boost of good bacteria. Puppies are still building their immune systems and elderly dogs are losing their ability to fight the bad bacteria.
You may choose to eat foods that contain probiotics instead of taking a supplement. You can, if you choose, to give these same foods to your dog but only is small amounts. For example, probiotic yogurt is a very popular food to eat and your dog can be given 1 to 3 teaspoons (based on the size of your dog) and preferably plain, at each meal.
If you choose to give your dog other foods, again provide them in much smaller quantities because it is difficult to determine how much your dog will require. With probiotics that are available for dogs, the amounts are premeasured into every dose. It is also strongly recommended that if your dog is not feeling well, only probiotics for dogs should be given and not "human" food.
Caring for our beloved family canine is a priority for many. Giving supplements such as probiotics for dogs to your pooch is a must for their health.
